Registration for NEW and RETURNING students begins March 24, 2026.
Per state law, students must be 5 years old on or before August 15, 2026, to enroll in kindergarten for the 2026-27 school year. Parents of students turning 5 on or before August 15 should follow the normal registration process. We encourage parents/guardians to begin the registration process as soon as possible.
Access your child's existing PowerSchool account, or request a new one, by contacting your child's school or the Office of Enrollment & Attendance at (901) 416-2989.
- Cut-off Date for Entering Kindergarten: Five-year-old kindergarteners who have not previously enrolled cannot be enrolled after the first 30 days of the school year.
- Immunizations and Physicals: All incoming kindergarteners to MSCS must submit proof of immunizations and physicals for enrollment. Students without complete immunizations cannot enroll until proof is provided.

2026 EARLY ENTRANCE SCREENING
Who Can Be Screened?
Each year, MSCS screens 4-year-olds who will turn 5 between August 16 and September 30 for early entrance to kindergarten. For the 2026-2027 school year, children whose date of birth falls between August 16. 2021, and September 30, 2021, may be screened to determine if they are eligible to enter kindergarten early.
Who Should NOT be Screened?
- If a child will already be 5 years old on or before August 15, then they may be registered for kindergarten without screening.
- If a child turns 5 after September 30, the child is not eligible for screening and must wait until the following year, fall 2027, to enroll in kindergarten.
If I Am Interested in Getting my Child Screened, What Should I Do?
Early-entrance screening will be conducted in June and July, and screening is done by appointment only. The Department of Assessment and Accountability will begin taking phone calls to set up early kindergarten entry screening appointments on Monday, May 11, at 8:00 AM.
Beginning on May 11th, please call 901-416-5450 to schedule an early kindergarten entry screening appointment for June or July.
