During its February 2023 business meeting, the MSCS Board of Education approved the purchase of land for a new high school in the Cordova area. Construction is expected to begin mid-2024 with a target completion date of fall 2026. This school will be the District’s first new high school in over a decade.
A state law passed last in 2022 required the transfer of four MSCS school buildings: Germantown High, Middle, and Elementary to the city of Germantown and Lucy Elementary to Millington.
In an effort led by Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris, the MSCS Board, Shelby County Commission, City of Germantown, and Germantown Municipal School District approved an agreement to transfer the “3G” schools in exchange for a new, state-of-the-art $100 million high school and up to nine years of transition time.
