Students are invited to learn everything from science to soccer, from cosmetology to aviation, and to connect with community partners in certain programs to gain invaluable experience.

The MSCS “Full STEAM Ahead!” Gifted & Talented Summer Camp is designed to provide enrichment and academic acceleration to students who are already working above grade level. Through focused hands-on learning grounded in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics, students will explore different facets of their world and/or history and build new skills to enhance the foundational learning that takes place during the regular school year. In addition to experiential learning on site, students will be transported to the Discovery Park of America in Union City for a full day of programming that aligns with the camp’s thematic study.

The Kinder Camp is a 4-week summer learning experience for rising Kindergarten students who did not attend a Memphis-Shelby County Schools PreK program or who attended a MSCS PreK program and need additional academic support. The purpose of the program is to engage incoming kindergarten children with the basic early literacy skills needed to help ensure readiness for the rigor and demands of the Kindergarten standards and curriculum. Children’s reading development is largely dependent upon their understanding of the alphabetic principle; therefore, Kinder Campers will engage in instruction and activities centered on the idea that letters and letter patterns represent the sounds of spoken language.

During the Summer Youth Program each student will be held to the highest standards of attendance and will be assigned to departments within County Government, Corporate Sponsors and/or Non-Profit Organizations with specific work needs. The students will be assigned a mentor and will receive developmental workshop training during the program. To be eligible the students must be at least 16 years old, live in Shelby County, and currently enrolled in school.

The students will be assigned a mentor and will receive developmental workshop training during the program. To be eligible the students must be at least 16 years old, live in Shelby County, and currently enrolled in school.

The Kinder Camp is a 4-week summer learning experience for rising Kindergarten students who did not attend a Memphis-Shelby County Schools PreK program or who attended a MSCS PreK program and need additional academic support. The purpose of the program is to engage incoming kindergarten children with the basic early literacy skills needed to help ensure readiness for the rigor and demands of the Kindergarten standards and curriculum. Children’s reading development is largely dependent upon their understanding of the alphabetic principle; therefore, Kinder Campers will engage in instruction and activities centered on the idea that letters and letter patterns represent the sounds of spoken language.

About: Camp Treetops was developed in 2006 formerly under Legacy Memphis City Schools Mental Health Center and now Memphis Shelby County Schools Mental Health Center. The program is a Trauma Focused Therapeutic Camp offered by licensed mental health clinicians to help middle school students who have experienced life changing events gain knowledge of protective factors that facilitate resiliency, promote emotional wellbeing, contribute to academic achievement and minimize barriers to success. It is a Free Camp designed to facilitate the development of positive behavior for students in a supportive, interactive, recreational and therapeutic environment.

About: The Pursuit Center is a program designed to address the increasing rate of recidivism and negative behaviors being exhibited in our schools and communities among justice involved young males between the ages of 12 and 18. About: Camp Treetops was developed in 2006 formerly under Legacy Memphis City Schools Mental Health Center and now Memphis Shelby County Schools Mental Health Center. The program is a Trauma Focused Therapeutic Camp offered by licensed mental health clinicians to help middle school students who have experienced life changing events gain knowledge of protective factors that facilitate resiliency, promote emotional wellbeing, contribute to academic achievement and minimize barriers to success. It is a Free Camp designed to facilitate the development of positive behavior for students in a supportive, interactive, recreational and therapeutic environment.
