Senior guard Taquez Butler of Whitehaven High School was crowned Mr. Basketball of Tennessee on Monday, March 17. He was among 36 standout basketball athletes, both men and women, who were honored for their achievements on the court this season. This award is no small feat, as it marks the culmination of an incredible season for Butler and the Whitehaven Tigers.

According to the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA), 2025 marks the 40th anniversary of the Mr. and Miss Basketball Awards, which recognize the state’s top high school basketball players.

Butler and his teammates will continue their pursuit of a state championship tonight when they face Oak Ridge High School at 8:45 p.m.

Butler currently holds offers from numerous schools nationwide, including Arizona State University. While he has yet to commit to a college, we wish him the best as he embarks on his collegiate journey.
