FathersFirst Memphis Adopts 14 Schools to Strengthen Family and Community Engagement

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) celebrated a significant milestone on Wednesday, February 12. FathersFirst Memphis officially adopted 14 district schools during a special ceremony at the 901 Café. This partnership is designed to enhance student success, promote social-emotional well-being, and strengthen family-school connections by ensuring that fathers and father-like role models play an active, visible role in students' educational journeys.

The adoption ceremony signified a formal commitment from FathersFirst Memphis to offer continuous mentorship, support, and community involvement for each school. Through this initiative, fathers and positive male role models will invest their time and efforts in being present at schools. They will nurture relationships with students and create an environment where young learners feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to succeed.

FathersFirst Memphis is driven by a powerful mission: “To cultivate nurturing and engaged fathers who will meaningfully enhance the well-being of their children and their families.”

“We truly believe that if we invest in fathers, and we build stronger fathers, we will build stronger families,” said Jon Humphrey, co-founder of FathersFirst Memphis.

Mr. Humphrey emphasized the importance of collaboration between the organization and school leaders. He highlighted the value of creating opportunities for fathers to be actively involved in schools and ensuring their voices are heard, through special events and volunteer opportunities.

The schools listed below were officially adopted as part of this transformative partnership:

  • Caldwell-Guthrie K8
  • Getwell Elementary
