District 7: Oakhaven’s Amari Spates Named The Daily Memphian’s High School Basketball Player of the Week

Oakhaven High School senior Amari Spates has been recognized as one of the Daily Memphian’s High School Basketball Players of the Week, earning an overwhelming 68% of the total vote in the boys’ category.

Spates, a 6-foot-0 standout guard, delivered a phenomenal performance on January 31, sinking six three-pointers and tallying a season-high 40 points to lead the Hawks to a dominant 77-58 victory over City University.

His offensive explosion and leadership on the court solidified his well-earned recognition. Oakhaven Principal Jocelyn Mosby proudly celebrated Spates’ achievement, stating, “Congratulations to our very own Amari! His dedication and hard work inspire us all. We are incredibly proud of him.”

Spates’ stellar performance is a testament to his skill, perseverance, and commitment to excellence. As he continues to shine this season, the Oakhaven community eagerly anticipates more electrifying moments from their star player.
