Late last week, Egypt Elementary School hosted a class-wide spelling bee qualification contest for students in grades 2 through 5. Due to multiple classes per grade level, each class held its own contest, which allowed every class in each grade band to be represented and enabled the school to engage more students. This approach also helped foster a sense of inclusion and school spirit. Each class crowned a 1st-, 2nd-, and 3rd-place winner, setting the stage for the upcoming school-wide spelling bee.
Recognizing that elementary-aged students may shy away from large crowds, the decision to host the qualification contests within individual homerooms was strategic. This setup provided a comfortable and familiar environment, allowing students to participate without the added pressure of performing in front of a large audience. By creating a more relaxed atmosphere, the school was able to ensure that more students felt confident and encouraged to participate, fostering a greater sense of accomplishment and school community.
The spelling bee contest is scheduled for Friday, January 24.
