MSCS’ Community Holiday Huddle – A Night Filled with Resources and Fun

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) on Thursday, December 5, hosted the Community Holiday Huddle, an interactive night filled with games, student entrepreneurs, and valuable resources at the Pink Palace Museum.

The night started off with interactive games including tossing the ring onto the reindeer antlers and collecting bows. The catch? You had to collect the bows with a kitchen spatula and place them in a plastic container that was placed on top of your head. While the games were available, MSCS student entrepreneurs had their products displayed on tables across the museum.

Later, MSCS senior leaders presented information and resources in regards to their specific departments. Afterward, there was an opportunity for a Q&A.

Parents listen as our senior district leaders present their information.

Erika, a parent of a sixth grader at White Station Middle School, said of the Community Holiday Huddle, “I believe community outreach creates brand awareness and also gives you the opportunity to connect with those district leaders with their initiatives as plans to help better the community, the schools, and parents as well as those teachers.”

Another parent, Domingo, from Sheffield Elementary, said he received a reminder about the event via text. Because it’s his daughter’s second year in school, he said he wanted to attend to engage with district leaders.

Lewunda, an employee and mother to two daughters who attend Idlewild Elementary and Maxine Smith STEAM Academy, said that events like these serve as “an opportunity for us to meet and talk with Dr. Feagins as well as with other senior district officials … It's a great time to connect and also even talk about things that are going on and try to find strategies or you know solutions to the issues that we may have and celebrate the wins that we do have.”

Events like the Community Holiday Huddle foster meaningful connections between families, students, and district leaders. They provide a unique opportunity for parents and educators to collaborate, share insights, and work together toward enhancing their scholar’s educational experience. As the school year continues, MSCS looks forward to more engaging interactions that strengthen the community and support the growth of the district.
