District 2: Craigmont High School Marching Band Crowned Grand Champion at Bayou Classic Battle of the Bands

Craigmont High School’s Tsunami of Sound Marching Band achieved a monumental victory at this year’s prestigious Bayou Classic High School Battle of the Bands, held at the iconic Caesar’s Superdome in New Orleans. Competing against formidable programs from Westbury High School (Houston), G.W. Carver High School (New Orleans), and Abramson High School (New Orleans), the Craigmont band proudly emerged as the Grand Champion of the event.

In addition to earning the coveted Grand Champion trophy, Craigmont was awarded a grand prize of $30,000 worth of Ludwig percussion instruments, a significant contribution to the continued excellence of the program.

This victory is not only a testament to the talent and hard work of the students but also a reflection of the unwavering dedication of the band director, his team of directors, and the support of parents and the school community.  Under their leadership, the program has gained national recognition and acclaim, solidifying its reputation as one of the best in the country.

“I respect and admire the amount of time Band Director (Deonte) Kennedy puts in with the kids,” said Dr. Derek King, principal of Craigmont. “Nothing great comes without putting in the work. It’s a proud moment for our school, our families, and our entire community.”

Craigmont High School Marching Band’s success at the Bayou Classic is a crowning milestone for the program, which continues to inspire and showcase the incredible talent within the school. This achievement represents the countless hours of practice, perseverance, and passion that Craigmont High School Marching Band has poured into their craft.
