In a heartwarming show of teamwork and community pride, parents, students, and volunteers came together to rejuvenate the raised garden beds at Jackson Elementary School. The event, spearheaded by the Junior Master Gardeners Club under the guidance of volunteer Master Gardener Melisa Knirr, marked a significant step forward.
Over the course of just an hour and 15 minutes, volunteers worked together to remove the old soil and refill the beds with 4 cubic yards of freshly screened composite soil generously donated by an anonymous benefactor. School counselor Maria Todd expressed the shared sense of accomplishment, stating, “Individuals felt very prideful. It’s true what they say, ‘Teamwork makes the dream work!’”
While a few students joined in, the majority of participants were parents who embraced the invitation to make a difference for their school. The event was not only a physical transformation but also a testament to the power of community collaboration.
Looking ahead, the Junior Master Gardeners Club plans to introduce worms to the raised beds this spring, utilizing their composting kit to create an even richer environment for growing plants. The school garden is now ready for a flourishing future.
