Dexter K-8 School has been recognized by the Alliance for a Healthier Generation as one of America’s Healthiest Schools for 2024. The Alliance for a Healthier Generation recognized 879 schools across 30 states that are implementing best practices to support the health of staff, students, and families.
Since 2007, Healthier Generation’s annual recognition program has honored schools for the key role they play in advancing the health and well-being of students, staff, and families. Healthier Generation has worked with schools, youth-serving organizations, businesses, communities, and families to promote health equity environments that support whole child health.
Healthier Generation says its work has impacted 31.1 million children across the U.S. by increasing access to nutritious foods, high-quality physical activity, social-emotional support, and tobacco-free environments. Schools play a critical role in supporting the physical, mental, and social-emotional health of students, staff, and families.
Schools are able to apply for recognition in up to nine topics related to student and staff health:
- Supporting School Health Services
- Implementing Local School Wellness Policy
- Improving Nutrition and Food Access
- Bolstering Physical Education and Activity
- Enriching Health Education
- Strengthening Social-Emotional Health and Learning
- Promoting Tobacco-Free Schools
- Cultivating Staff Well-Being
- Increasing Family and Community Engagement
Congratulations to Dexter K-8, its staff and young scholars for this great achievement!
