In a thrilling showdown, Bellevue Middle School emerged victorious over White Station Middle School, winning 2-0 in the Class AA Memphis-Shelby County Interscholastic Athletic Association (MSCIAA) Volleyball Championship. The match showcased the determination and skill of Bellevue’s players, who were eager to avenge last year's defeat to White Station.
“It feels great,” said Bellevue student Lauren Z. after the match. “It was a really tough match because White Station is a very good team. But my teammates and I were really ready to fight. We really want to go to state this year because they knocked us out last year.”
The championship match drew a crowd of enthusiastic supporters, all eager to witness the fierce competition between two of Memphis's top middle school teams. Bellevue's strategy and teamwork shone through, earning them the coveted title and a chance to advance to state competition.
Kai Washington, the MSCIAA coordinator of middle school volleyball, expressed her excitement about the growing popularity of the sport. “Volleyball doesn’t get much attention, but it’s actually one of the fastest-growing sports,” she noted, highlighting the increased participation and enthusiasm among young athletes.
In addition to Bellevue’s success, E.E. Jeter also claimed a championship title, defeating John P. Freeman 2-0 in the Class A championship. Both teams demonstrated exceptional skill and sportsmanship, contributing to an exciting day for middle school volleyball in Memphis.
As the season continues, Bellevue Middle School looks forward to the state competition, aiming to build on their recent success and further establish themselves as a powerhouse in middle school volleyball.
