Memphis, TN - Dr. Marie N. Feagins has selected multi-faceted academic leader Dr. Jared Myracle as the new Director of Literacy at Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS).

Dr. Jared Myracle

“As a longtime leader in this work, Dr. Myracle is guided by a fundamental principle—which I share—that literacy is the foundation of all learning,” said Dr. Feagins. “He is dedicated to achieving ambitious results for kids.”

As Director of Literacy, Dr. Myracle will elevate, innovate, and lead the district’s efforts to ensure students are reading and writing proficiently, understanding complex texts, and excelling in literacy.

He brings nearly 20 years of experience to this role, having served in various capacities in education both in and out of the classroom.

As Senior Director of English/Language Arts, Literacy, and Humanities, he led the development of Secondary Literacy Training sessions and Literacy Implementation Networks at the Tennessee Department of Education.

Additionally, Dr. Myracle served as the Senior Director of Programs at Impact Florida, an educational nonprofit that focuses on building educator capacity.

Most recently, as Chief Academic Officer for Jackson-Madison County Schools, his hands-on transformational work produced dynamic achievement and growth results in area schools, and the number of kindergarten students scoring above average on a standardized phonics screener doubled.

Student achievement and transformation drive Dr. Myracle’s work, as evidenced by his numerous successes in schools and districts across West Tennessee. He increased student achievement as a teacher and an administrator by leading schools to the top 5% for growth in the state and the top 10% for achievement in the state.

Dr. Myracle is a native of Jackson, Tenn., and holds Doctor of Education and Master of Education degrees from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Union University in Jackson, Tenn.
