Join us in celebrating their resilience and determination as they share their unique stories, navigate challenges, and pursue their college and career aspirations, embodying the spirit of #MSCS24k

Meet Kaylan B., a true Memphis native passionate about making a difference in her school community and beyond. Throughout her high school journey, Kaylan has been a shining star in various clubs and activities.

As the Senior Class President and cheer captain of the Memphis East Varsity Cheer team, she has led with grace and charisma, ensuring that her peers’ voices are heard, and their spirits lifted. But her involvement doesn’t stop there. Kaylan is also a dedicated member of the Memphis Ambassadors Program, where she serves as a Global Ambassador, bridging connections and fostering cultural understanding.

Despite facing numerous obstacles, including the demanding schedule of a student-athlete, Kaylan has overcome each challenge with perseverance and strength. As a student-athlete, she has faced the unique challenge of managing dual-enrollment classes while serving as head cheer captain and participating in extracurricular commitments, including the MAP program, ballet, and Bridge Builders. On weekends, she serves as a teaching assistant. Despite the long weeks and packed schedules, Kaylan’s perseverance and strength have propelled her forward, proving that anything is possible with hard work and diligence.

Kaylan’s impact extends far beyond the walls of East High School. Her involvement in organizations like Delta Sigma Theta Sorority GEMS (Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully) Program and the National Honor Society reflects her deep commitment to service and leadership. At the same time, her passion for dance has taken her on a journey of self-discovery and growth. As a nine-year student at Collage Dance Collective, Kaylan has developed her skills and broadened her perspective, participating in ballet and dance recitals and attending the International Association of Blacks in Dance to further her training.

As she prepares to embark on the next chapter of her journey, Kaylan’s sights are set on Tennessee State University, where she plans to major in Agricultural Sciences with a concentration on Food and Animal Sciences. But her ambitions don’t end there. With dreams of pursuing a double major in dance and agricultural science, Kaylan is determined to leave a significant mark in both fields, embodying the spirit of Maya Angelou’s words: “You may not control all the events that happen to you, but you can decide not to be reduced by them.” As she sets her sights on a bright future, we do not doubt that she will continue to inspire and empower those around her, leaving a legacy of greatness wherever she goes.
