McGraw Hill, a leading global education company, today announced the winners of its second annual McGraw Hill Pathfinder Awards.

MSCS jewel and former Tennessee Teacher of the Year Dr. Melissa Collins has been named a McGraw Hill Pathfinder Award recipient for her expertise in education. The John P. Freeman Optional School teacher has been an educator for over 25 years and is involved in various national initiatives and boards. McGraw Hill highlighted her teaching philosophy and innovation in STEM education.
According to McGraw Hill, Dr. Collins believes in providing her students with real-world exposure to STEM professions, organizing field trips, and facilitating interactions with professionals in the field. “Melissa’s passions lie in making her students feel valued and empowered, and it’s the driving force behind her "Future Leaders of STEM" program, which she initiated to inspire young students to pursue careers in STEM fields,” the company’s website shared.
As one of only three educators across the nation selected for this honor, Dr. Collins won a $5,000 cash prize and an amazing professional development opportunity from a national company. The program, launched in 2022, honors K-12, higher education, and post-graduate educators who have shown innovation and inventiveness in their approach to teaching, helping learners discover their unique path to success.
