SCS Named Finalist for 2021 Robert R. Church, Sr. Corporation of the Year Award

In recognition of Shelby County Schools’ hard work and outstanding contribution in promoting minority business development, the District has been named a finalist for the prestigious 2021 Robert R. Church, Sr. Corporation of the Year Award by the Mid-South Minority Business Council (MMBC) Continuum.

SCS believes in providing business opportunities that empower our community as we reimagine 901. Having a Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), Woman Business Enterprise (WBE) and/or Small Business (SBE) certification can help participants tap into various public and private sector programs. With the commitment to expand equitable opportunities, SCS continues to host monthly Minority and Women-Owned Small Business Pre-certification workshops.

“The success of Memphis Shelby County Schools is tied to the economic vitality of Greater Memphis,” said Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray. “Economic growth means improved student academic outcomes. Therefore, this is heart work and simply the right thing to do to better serve our students and families. Economic success belongs to everyone.”

The District’s MWSBE Office was recognized during the awards ceremony held on November 17, 2021.
