On Wednesday, December 11, senior students at Melrose High School had the opportunity to meet with tnAchieve mentors. Several parents joined the mentorship session as well to get more involved with their children’s future college education, so they can achieve success.
tnAchieves is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing an opportunity for every Tennessee student to obtain a post-secondary credential. As the partnering organization to the TN Promise scholarship serving 90 percent of Tennessee’s high school seniors, tnAchieves helps ensure students meet college enrollment requirements and proactively supports them through earning a college credential.
As stated on their website, the tnAchieves mentors provide valuable encouragement, advice and accountability.
It isn’t a secret that college can be an emotionally challenging time, but mentors are available to provide a safe space for students to talk about their struggles and frustrations. They offer advice on managing stress, balancing social and academic life, and handling personal challenges. Having someone who listens and understands can help reduce feelings of isolation and anxiety.
Mentors often have experience in the field a student is interested in, providing insights into career paths, job opportunities, and industry expectations. They can assist with networking, resume building, and interview preparation, giving students a competitive edge as they enter the job market.
Overall, mentorship helps students build essential skills such as communication, leadership, time management, and problem-solving. Mentors model these skills, offering feedback and encouragement that helps students grow both personally and professionally.
