In a triumphant display of determination and talent, the MASE Phoenix football team made history by claiming their first TSSAA Class 1A state championship. The Phoenix defeated South Pittsburg in a decisive 36-14 victory on Friday, capping off a remarkable season with a Gold Ball.
Under the leadership of head coach Cedric Miller, MASE finished the season with an impressive 13-1 record. The championship win not only marked the program’s first state title but also solidified their place among Tennessee’s top high school football teams.
The championship game’s MVP honors went to Christopher Watson, whose outstanding performance propelled the Phoenix to victory. Watson rushed for 76 yards and scored three touchdowns, playing a pivotal role in the team’s success.
