On Thursday, December 5, the Orange Mound community celebrated the Melrose High School Golden Wildcats football team as the young men prepared to leave for Chattanooga to play in the Class 4A Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) Championship game – something the school hasn’t been able to do for the past 19 years.
The support from other students, parents, teachers, and staff was incredible! Everybody was cheering and wishing the Melrose football team good luck, hoping they could bring home the trophy.
The Golden Wildcats defeated Nashville’s Pearl-Cohn High School 14-7 in the TSSAA football playoffs semifinal. With only 41 seconds left in the game against the defending champions, Melrose’s Jamarion Morrow scored a touchdown that gave his team the long-awaited ticket to a TSSAA final.
In the championship game on Saturday, December 7, the Golden Wildcats will face Macon County at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. You can buy your tickets here: https://gofan.co/app/school/TSSAA
