Members of Rhodes College’s Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. recently visited Snowden School and Valessa Swindall’s kindergarten class, bringing the gift of storytelling and valuable life lessons to the young students. The fraternity brothers read “It’s My Turn,” a storybook about the importance of taking turns, capturing the attention and imaginations of the eager learners.
The engaging visit didn’t stop with just storytime. The kindergarteners enthusiastically participated in a discussion, sharing how they practice taking turns at home and school. Their examples ranged from waiting for their favorite toys to sharing snacks with siblings, reflecting the lesson in action.
The storytime visit wasn’t just about reading – it was about fostering kindness and cooperation, even at an early age. The initiative is part of Snowden’s ongoing efforts to support youth development and build connections within the Memphis community. The Greendog students believe in doing the right thing, are always prepared, respect ourselves, others, and property, and know that kindness counts.
As the storybook session wrapped up, smiles filled the room as the kindergarten class shared their own experiences – proof that sometimes, the simplest lessons leave the most lasting impact.
