District 8: Red Ribbon Week continues at Berclair Elementary School

Red Ribbon Week, which is celebrated throughout the United States annually October 23-31, continues this week at Berclair Elementary School. The week highlights the importance of living a drug-free life, and presents an opportunity for parents, educators, and communities to reinforce the drug-free messages they share with their children throughout the year.

During Red Ribbon Week, youth and adults across the nation pledge to increase their knowledge by learning more about the destructive effects of drug abuse, including prescription drug misuse, and renew their commitment to live a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.

At Berclair Elementary, on Tuesday, October 29, Red Ribbon Week is marked by “Get a Friend, Dress like Twins Day” where students get to dress like their friend.

On Wednesday, October 30, Berclair students will “Sock it to Drugs” by wearing cool socks.

Lastly, on Thursday, October 31, it’s “Drugs are Wacky; it’s Tacky day.” Students are tasked to wear mismatched clothes.

The first Red Ribbon Week was organized by the National Family Partnership, a grassroots, nonprofit organization founded in 1980 to give parents a leadership role in drug prevention. Today, NFP is a national leader in drug-prevention education and advocacy. Its mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug-free youth.
