District 5: Creative Color Mixing in Mrs. Austin’s 3rd Grade Class at Macon Hall Elementary

Memphis, TN, District 5, Macon Hall Elementary- In a vibrant and interactive lesson, Mrs. Austin’s 3rd grade class at Macon Hall Elementary had a fantastic time exploring the world of colors using primary-colored slime in Mrs. Dest’s art class!

The excitement began as students entered the classroom, where they were greeted by a rainbow of colorful slime, each representing a primary color, red, blue, and yellow. Under Mrs. Dest’s guidance, students engaged in hands-on activities to mix these primary colors, creating a spectrum of secondary and tertiary colors.

Using slime allowed students to have fun while learning about color theory in a tangible way. As they mixed and matched, the classroom buzzed with excitement and laughter.

Students eagerly combined the primary slimes to see what new colors they could create, thrilled to discover that mixing blue and yellow resulted in a bright green slime, while red and yellow transformed into a cheerful orange.

The hands-on experience enhanced the students’ understanding of color mixing and fostered teamwork and collaboration as they worked in pairs, sharing their ideas and techniques.

By the end of the class, the students had created an array of colorful slime and gained a deeper appreciation for the art of color mixing. This interactive lesson will surely be one they remember as they continue to explore their artistic talents throughout the school year.

Stay tuned for more creative adventures from Mrs. Austin's class at Macon Hall Elementary!
