Memphis Grizzlies star Jaren Jackson Jr. made a surprise visit to Georgian Hills Elementary, rewarding students for their exceptional behavior, grades, and attendance. The event, which had students buzzing with excitement, included surprise giveaways, classroom visits, and a special FaceTime call with Jackson’s teammate, Ja Morant.
Jackson, who is known for his philanthropic efforts in the community, entered the school to a chorus of cheers from students who were unaware of his visit until the moment he walked through the doors. He spent the day traveling from classroom to classroom, engaging with students and applauding their hard work.
“Your dedication and effort do not go unnoticed,” Jackson told a group of wide-eyed third graders. “Keep it up, and remember that education is just as important as basketball!”
As a reward for their achievements, Jackson handed out stylish backpacks filled with school supplies to each student, emphasizing the importance of being prepared for school.
The highlight of the day came when Jackson facilitated a surprise FaceTime call with Ja Morant. The students erupted in cheers as Morant appeared on the screen, sharing words of encouragement. The students were visibly thrilled, some even squealing in delight as they waved at the screen.
Principal Travis McGlothian expressed his gratitude for Jackson’s unexpected visit. “It means the world to our students to see someone they admire investing in their future. It motivates them to stay focused on their studies,” he said.
As the day came to a close, Jackson reminded the students that while basketball is important, education and character development are paramount. “Always strive for greatness, on and off the court,” he said before leaving, leaving a lasting impact on the young students of Georgian Hills.
This visit not only celebrated academic achievements but also strengthened the bond between the Grizzlies and the Memphis community, showing that even small gestures can have a monumental effect on the lives of children.
