Dr. Marie N. Feagins has selected Jermaine Johnson as the new Strategic Communications Officer for Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS).
“Jermaine brings an incredible mix of experience, creativity, and strategic insight to our district,” said Dr. Feagins. “His proven track record in communications and community engagement will be invaluable as we work to enhance our district’s visibility and impact.”
In his new role, Mr. Johnson will spearhead a three-year strategy to boost visibility across MSCS’ TV and Radio Stations, Media Relations, Constituent Services, and Public Relations departments. His expertise will help ensure that the district’s message resonates and connects effectively with all internal and external stakeholders.
As Director of Communications for the Norwood Resource Center, Mr. Johnson boosted public awareness and media relations through strategic initiatives and strong community partnerships. His successful work with major events such as the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) Tournament and Southeastern Conference (SEC) games resulted in a 30% increase in brand visibility. Furthermore, he secured $500,000 in corporate donations, prioritizing support for underserved communities.
With over 20 years of experience, Mr. Johnson excelled as an On-Air Radio Personality at Summit Media (95.7 Jamz), where he significantly increased listener engagement and company revenue through targeted promotional events. His dedication to education and community is also evident from his impactful roles as an educator at Tuscaloosa City Schools and as an Admissions Counselor at Stillman College.
Mr. Johnson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in English and Communications from Stillman College. In addition to his professional achievements, he has garnered several prestigious awards, including the 2023 Birmingham Association of Black Journalists Community Service Award and the 2023 Refreshing Our Communities “Man of Influence” Award. He was also named one of The Root Magazine’s “100 Most Influential African Americans of 2020.”
