Caldwell-Guthrie Returns to MSCS as Pre-K-8 STEAM School

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is excited to extend a warm welcome to students and families from Memphis Scholars and Humes Middle School as the District assumes control of Caldwell-Guthrie School. This transition marks a pivotal moment in advancing educational opportunities for the North Memphis community.

Under MSCS management, Caldwell-Guthrie School will be transformed into a pre-K through 8th grade STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and math) school, reaffirming MSCS's commitment to innovative and comprehensive education.

"We are honored to continue serving the Caldwell-Guthrie community and are dedicated to enriching the educational journey for every student," affirmed Superintendent Feagins. "Our emphasis on STEAM education ensures students have access to next-level opportunities that nurture creativity, critical thinking, and solutions-focused skills."

In preparation for a seamless transition, MSCS is finalizing the appointment of a principal and will convene a community meeting at Caldwell-Guthrie School on Tuesday, July 9, at 6 p.m. This gathering will provide an invaluable opportunity for MSCS leaders, state representatives, and families to collaboratively shape plans and address any inquiries.

"To facilitate a smooth start for students and families, we are launching onsite registration beginning Tuesday," added Superintendent Feagins. "Our objective is to give reassurance and support as we welcome everyone back to MSCS."

Caldwell-Guthrie School has been under ASD management since the 2016-17 school year. This school’s transition and the closure of Humes Middle School will see students from the area now zoned to Caldwell-Guthrie. This evolution underscores MSCS's commitment to delivering innovative educational opportunities that equip students to win and leave a legacy in an ever-evolving global landscape.
