Superintendent Announces Transformation Officer

Dr. Roderick Richmond

Dr. Marie N. Feagins has selected longtime educational leader Dr. Roderick Richmond as the district's new Transformation Officer.

The Office of Transformation has been established by the Superintendent to uplift and support 76 "Supe Schools," those that were rated "D" or "F" by the state.

Additionally, Dr. Richmond and his team will oversee Athletics, Discipline Hearings, and Next-Level Readiness, programs such as College, Career and Technical Education that help ensure students are prepared for the next chapter of life after K-12.

"Dr. Richmond will approach this role with fresh eyes but a wide lens," said Dr. Feagins. “He has held nearly every role in this district and holds deep institutional knowledge. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Richmond to secure the current and future success of our students.”

Drawing from a distinguished three-decade career as an esteemed educator and administrator in the legacy Memphis City Schools, Dr. Richmond joined Memphis-Shelby County Schools during the 2013-14 school year.

He played a pivotal role as Chief Academic Officer during the merger of Shelby County Schools (SCS) and Memphis City Schools (MCS), overseeing one of the largest school consolidations in public education history. Under his leadership, the district achieved exceptional results, including surpassing 10 out of 11 Annual Measurable Objectives (AMOS), identifying 39 schools as Reward Schools, and achieving a remarkable 'Level 5' rating for student growth, the highest score awarded by the State of Tennessee. He most recently has served MSCS as its Executive Director of Student Support Services.

A proud district graduate, Dr. Richmond holds a bachelor's degree from Tennessee State University, a master's degree from the University of Mississippi, and Educational Specialist and Doctorate degrees from Union University.

Additionally, he has enriched his expertise through participation in prestigious programs such as the Public Education Leadership Project (PELP) at Harvard University and the TSBA Prospective Superintendent's Academy.
