Raleigh-Egypt High School has a new educational garden dedicated in memory of Coach Duane Stokes, the school’s basketball coach who passed away in 2004.
The teaching garden will allow special education students at Raleigh-Egypt to get hands on experience while learning about nutrition and plant life. The classes will use special curriculum designed by the American Heart Association to promote student health. The students planted seeds, fruits, vegetables and herbs in several beds located right outside the cafeteria. They will continue to care for the crops throughout the school year as they learn the importance of eating healthy foods.
The garden is funded through a sponsorship from Cigna.
