ESSER IN ACTION Banner

Thanks to the Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER) Fund, SCS is able to provide programs and services that revolutionize the school experience and change the day-to-day lives of students for the better. Stay tuned. More to come!

AN OVERVIEW FROM OUR SUPERINTENDENT
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shelby County Schools rapidly distributed more than 95,000 devices to schools and students in less than two months. Dr. Joris M. Ray shares highlights about how SCS will use the next rounds of COVID relief funds.

WITNESSING ESSER IN ACTION
SCS takes a visit to an elementary school to see how ESSER dollars are being used to close the achievement gap, support the learning process, improve school safety, and mitigate negative impacts from the pandemic.

GOOD FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, AND YOU

Using ESSER funds, Shelby County Schools is replacing all water fountains districtwide with 3,000 new, filtered, water bottle filling stations.

ADDITIONAL SUPPORT IN THE CLASSROOM

SCS is spending COVID relief funds to invest in Specialized Education Assistants in the classroom. This extra, often individualized, support greatly benefits classroom teachers and students.

NEW AND IMPROVED TUTORING OPPORTUNITIES

Through newly implemented programs, SCS is offering high dosage/low ratio tutoring sessions before, during, and after the school day.

MONITORING THE WORK AS WE REIMAGINE 901

SCS Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray is using bi-weekly Superintendent Academic Leadership Team (SALT) meetings to granularly monitor data.
