Germantown High School was thrilled to welcome MSCS Assistant Superintendent Dr. Janice V. Tankson on campus for a special surprise visit on Thursday, October 31. Dr. Tankson stepped in as the “Sub of the Day” for Mr. Bernardini, our dedicated social studies teacher. The surprise gave Mr. Bernardini a chance to catch up on grading, while his students were in for an unforgettable class led by Dr. Tankson, who brought both her expertise and enthusiasm for learning into the classroom.
Dr. Tankson didn’t just step in; she fully embraced the role. Arriving with energy and excitement, she engaged students in a unique lesson tied to their recent studies on the cultural and geographical origins of Halloween. In the spirit of the season, she even participated in the school’s costume contest, making the day even more memorable for students. Her presence brought a fresh perspective and an extra layer of fun to the lesson as she discussed the rich history and traditions surrounding Halloween.
Throughout the class, Dr. Tankson encouraged students to explore the ways different cultures celebrate and honor traditions, sparking curiosity and thought-provoking discussions. Her approachable teaching style and insightful contributions captivated the students, who eagerly participated and shared their own ideas. The class was filled with laughter, learning, and a sense of community that left a lasting impact on everyone involved.
When the bell rang, many of Dr. Tankson’s 2nd-period students were reluctant to leave, wishing they could continue the lively and engaging discussion. Her visit reminded everyone of the power of passionate educators who inspire and uplift students, and we’re grateful for her time and dedication to making a difference in the lives of our students at Germantown High School.
