District 4: Shelby County Health Department Partners with Kirby High School to Inspire Future Public Health Leaders

Shelby County Health Department Director-Health Officer Dr. Michelle Taylor is excited to announce a new partnership with Kirby High School as a proud "Cougars' Connector." This collaboration reflects the department’s commitment to investing in the next generation of public health professionals by engaging directly with students.

The partnership will feature a student shadowing program, giving participants hands-on experience alongside health professionals in various roles within the department. Additionally, a new public health club will launch at Kirby High, offering students opportunities to explore health-related careers and develop leadership skills. Through this initiative, students will gain exposure to the vital role public health plays in building stronger, healthier communities.

This collaboration highlights the shared goals of the Shelby County Health Department, Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS), and the School of Public Health at the University of Memphis to foster learning, mentorship, and career readiness. By connecting students with real-world experiences in public health, the program aims to inspire future leaders and cultivate a passion for service in the next generation.
