Memphis-Shelby County Schools Invests $3.4 Million to Empower Key Operational Roles

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) has invested $3.4 million aimed at elevating critical areas across the District. This effort underscores MSCS's commitment to excellence by attracting and retaining top talent in pivotal operational positions.

To strengthen its dedicated workforce, MSCS will host a hiring blitz on Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Teaching and Learning Academy, with a focus on Nutrition and Facility Service roles.

Highlights of the investment include substantial salary increases across key roles:

  • Electricians, HVAC, and Plumbers: Will see an average increase of 19%, ensuring competitive compensation aligned with local industry standards.
  • Nutrition Services: Will benefit from an average increase of 6%, complemented by the transition of all four-hour positions to five hours, thereby extending eligibility for comprehensive benefits.
  • Plant Managers: Will experience an average increase of 10% and a transition pathway to Building Engineers following specialized training starting July 22, 2024. This evolution aims to fortify support for our district's vital infrastructure.
  • School-Based Clerical Assistants: Will see an average increase of 14%, with eleven-month employees transitioning to twelve months to provide uninterrupted support to our schools.

"By boosting salaries in these critical areas, we strive to secure and empower professionals who are instrumental in advancing our district's mission."

  • Tuesday, July 16, and Thursday, July 18 - National Virtual Hiring Blitz 
  • Saturday, July 20 - Jackson Hilton, 1001 East County Line Rd., Jackson, MS, from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
