Coordinated School Health is a state-wide initiative, and our main goal is to reduce childhood obesity. We know that healthy students are better learners. By helping schools tackle their health barriers, we can ensure that your school is a healthy environment to foster academic achievement. We are able to achieve these goals with access to physical activity, comprehensive health education, quality nutrition, and family involvement. Our department is equipped with a School Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) and staff coordinating council/district leadership team that meets a minimum of once per quarter. We also ensure that all schools have active healthy school teams that meet a minimum of once per quarter. The healthy school teams have the opportunity to complete and update all 11 School Health Index (SHI) modules, which focus on building a healthy school environment. Coordinated School Health updates school/District wellness policies to include the CSH mission and goals, current physical activity and school vending law, and USDA guidelines. All this is done to ensure that the District is in full compliance with state requirements.
